Serve The Goddess brings peace,  love and happiness during a Chinese New Year event.

Living in California we are reminded of how diverse the world is – so many cultures, races, ethnic groups – people from all walks of life living in one state. With so many cultures living under one roof it’s wonderful that there’s always something to celebrate!

One of the cultural events that is celebrated is the Chinese festival marking the first of the new year. This festival starts on the second new moon after the winter solstice and it ends on the full moon fifteen days later which this year is January 28th to February 11th. Traditionally, it’s a celebration marked by togetherness with friends and family, eating, gift giving and enjoying a “new start” – very similar to how North Americans celebrate New Year, marked on January 1st of each year. This year -2017 is known as the Year of the Rooster (or Chicken) and represents fidelity and punctuality, for it wakes people up on time. According to Chinese culture, people born in the year of the Rooster are beautiful, kind-hearted, hard-working, courageous, independent, humorous and honest. They like to keep their home neat and organized. 

Chinese New Year is one of the most, if not the most, social and economic holidays in China. It was originally noted as a time to honor ancestors while bringing families together to love, laugh and enjoy life as one. In recent years, the Chinese New Year continues to evolve – as people merge, some old cultures tend to either change over time or almost  completely die out.

This year, Serve The Goddess had a chance to celebrate the Chinese New Year by painting special symbols on our clients’ fingernails at different events across the Greater LA area – embracing some wonderful wishes for 2017.

Here are some of the symbols we painted on clients’ fingernails. Clients typically picked a design that had meaning for them and it’s not surprising that the peaceful and calm symbol was most popular.

It was our honor to be a part of such a special time with such a historic culture. Each moment is new and every day we have a chance to start over or shift directions. It is our wish that you always find the new ways to elevate and head in a favorable direction.
